Grand Rapids is set to welcome Everbloom Montessori Cooperative, a new charter school aimed at providing quality early education. Scheduled to open by September 2025, this initiative addresses the pressing need for child care in the Garfield Park and Cottage Grove neighborhoods. With strategic renovations on a new property and a unique sliding scale tuition model, Everbloom Montessori aims to serve a diverse student body and enrich the local community.
Grand Rapids, Michigan is buzzing with excitement as plans for a brand-new school unfold. The Everbloom Montessori Cooperative is gearing up to launch a charter school by the fall of 2025, catering to families in the Garfield Park and Cottage Grove neighborhoods. This initiative is not just about education; it’s about creating a nurturing environment for young learners in the community!
You might be surprised to learn that Everbloom Montessori was created during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Founded by a dedicated group of teachers, the school has already made waves since it first opened in August 2021. Currently, it’s operating from two temporary buildings at 2428 Burton St. SE, but with big dreams on the horizon!
In an exciting turn of events, Everbloom Montessori secured a new property located at 1575 Jefferson Ave. SE for a cool $1.2 million on October 31, 2024. This new site will undergo extensive renovations, estimated at around $2 million, ensuring it meets the needs of both the students and staff when the school opens in September 2025.
The renovations will be looked after by Willink Construction Inc., a company based in East Grand Rapids, with the creative designs coming from Design Forum Inc. in Belmont. The team carefully chose this location after considering five different options, ensuring they stay rooted in Grand Rapids and close to essential bus lines for easy access.
One thing that sets Everbloom Montessori apart is its mission to address a critical issue. The organization has identified the Garfield Park area as a “child care desert”, meaning there is a pressing need for quality early childhood services in this part of the city. With this new school, they aim to significantly enhance the availability of early education opportunities for local families.
When the school opens its doors, it’s projected to serve up to 135 students in various programs ranging from infants to kindergarten. But that’s not all! Everbloom Montessori is also set to introduce a new elementary “micro Montessori” program in collaboration with the Wildflower Foundation, which aims to enroll at least 50 students. While this initiative still awaits authorization from Grand Valley State University, it promises to bring even more educational opportunities to the community.
Anyone concerned about the costs of education will be pleased to hear that Everbloom Montessori operates on a sliding scale tuition model. This means that tuition fees are based on household income, allowing families from various economic backgrounds to access quality education without breaking the bank. It’s a fantastic approach to ensure that every child has a chance to thrive!
The school’s ability to invest in this exciting new location stems from success in applying for child care stabilization grants during the pandemic. This financial assistance has played a pivotal role in helping Everbloom Montessori realize its dreams for future students and the community.
As Grand Rapids gears up for the arrival of Everbloom Montessori, local families can start looking forward to a brighter future for their little ones. With an emphasis on high-quality early childhood education in underserved neighborhoods, the school is set to make a meaningful impact. Plans are in motion, and the community’s dedication shines through, making this a much-anticipated development!
