Celebrating the dedication of teachers shaping young minds.
Kevin Geary from CA Frost Environmental Science Academy has been honored as the Teacher of the Week for his 24 years of dedicated service. Known for his passion for social studies and his love for teaching fifth graders, Geary’s humble nature reflects the dedication of educators everywhere. His principal, Karla Finn, emphasizes the importance of recognizing teachers who shape the future. The community is encouraged to nominate inspiring educators for this recognition.
In the heart of Grand Rapids, one particular educator has caught the attention of the community with his unwavering commitment to teaching and the tremendous impact he has on his students. Meet Kevin Geary, a vibrant figure at the CA Frost Environmental Science Academy Elementary, who has just been recognized as the Teacher of the Week!
Imagine working tirelessly for over 20 years and suddenly being honored for your efforts. That was the reality for Geary, who expressed surprise and gratitude upon receiving the news. It seems that he had no clue that he was even nominated for this special acknowledgment. It just shows how humble educators can be, often underestimating the positive influence they wield in their students’ lives.
Geary isn’t just an amazing educator; he’s also part of a lineage of teaching professionals. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, he comes from a family that heavily emphasizes education. With a father who taught high school and a mother who worked with the Grand Rapids Public Schools, it’s clear that teaching is practically a family business for him. Out of six siblings, five have dabbled in the profession at various points, a testament to the strong belief in the power of education!
When he’s not busy in the classroom, Geary has spent about 12 years as a museum educator, utilizing his degree in museum studies. Despite taking some breaks from teaching, he consistently finds the classroom atmosphere fulfilling and exciting. He absolutely loves working with children and has a soft spot for teaching fifth graders! This particular grade is where he believes the magic happens, allowing him to engage with the subject matter and share his passion for learning in a way that resonates with his students.
Principal Karla Finn, who has worked closely with Geary, couldn’t emphasize enough the importance of recognizing dedicated teachers like him. Finn described Geary as an “amazing educator” who has positively influenced countless lives during his 24 years in the education sector. Her comments shine a light on a larger issue: teachers often work tirelessly without ample recognition for their commitment to their students and the community.
It’s no secret that teaching can be a demanding profession. Geary himself aptly describes it as the “best and the hardest job in the world.” However, his passion for social studies and working with students helps him navigate the challenges with grace and dedication. It’s this same passion that Principal Finn believes helps students truly thrive in the classroom environment, making learning fun and engaging.
If you know of an inspiring teacher who deserves recognition like Kevin Geary, you can easily nominate them for the Teacher of the Week program. Just text “teacher” to 616-559-1310 and shine a light on their incredible work!
Every educator like Geary plays a crucial role in shaping the minds of tomorrow. Join us in celebrating teachers everywhere for their remarkable contributions!
